Anne-Laure Mahé is a Fellow in the Department of Methodology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She holds a PhD in political science from the University of Montreal and was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the Montreal Center for International Studies (CERIUM) and the East Africa researcher at the Institute for Strategic Research (IRSEM) within the French Ministry of the Armed Forces. She is an associate researcher at the African Worlds Institute (IMAF) and at the Center for Social, Legal and Economic Studies and Documentation in Sudan (CEDEJ-Khartoum). Situated at the intersection of comparative politics, international relations and development studies, her research focuses on how authoritarian regimes sustain themselves in Africa, and in particular on how they mobilize and instrumentalize the norms and practices of the globalized fields of development and capacity building. Her work focuses specifically on Sudan, where she conducted qualitative fieldwork in 2015, 2019, and 2022. She also works on security issues in East Africa.
