Arthur Stein is a senior analyst at the Institute for Advanced National Defense Studies (IHEDN) in France. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Montreal; his doctoral research focused on determining whether and how the public disclosure of external support for rebels influences their use of violence against civilians during internal wars. More broadly, his research focuses on civil conflicts and violence against civilians. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned a master’s degree in political science from the Institute of Political Studies in Strasbourg (France). He also served as an intern at the United Nations Office in Geneva (Switzerland) and worked for a humanitarian organization combating child malnutrition in Léogâne (Haiti).
