**Frédéric Lasserre** holds a master’s degree in business (ESC Lyon), an MBA (York University, Toronto), a DEA in geopolitics (University of Paris VIII), and a Ph.D. in geography (University of Saint-Étienne).

He worked as a consultant at the European Observatory of Geopolitics (Lyon), then as an international affairs advisor at the Quebec Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and later at Investissement Québec. He has been a professor in the Department of Geography at Laval University (Quebec City) since 2001 and heads the Quebec Council for Geopolitical Studies (CQEG) and the Research Chair in Indo-Pacific Studies (CREIP).

He has conducted extensive research in the fields of water management, the Arctic, the geopolitics of transportation, various maritime borders in Asia, and Chinese politics.

He served as project director for the international research network ArcticNet from 2010 to 2015. His book *L’éveil du dragon. Les défis du développement de la Chine au XXIe siècle* (Presses de l’Université du Québec) won the HEC Best Business Book Award in 2006.
