Marion Laurence is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Dalhousie University. Her research interests include international relations theory, global security governance, and learning and change in international organizations. Her work centres on norm and practice change in global governance, with a primary focus on multilateral peace and stability operations. She is the author of Intrusive Impartiality: Learning, Contestation, and Practice Change in United Nations Peace Operations (Oxford University Press, 2024) and co-author of Norms, Practices, and Social Change in Global Politics (Cambridge University Press, 2025). Before taking up her position at Dalhousie, she held research and teaching appointments at the Canadian Forces College, the University of Toronto, the University of Ottawa, Toronto Metropolitan University, and the Dallaire Centre of Excellence for Peace and Security within the Canadian Defence Academy.
Dr. Laurence’s work has been supported by grants and fellowships from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the International Studies Association, Global Affairs Canada, the Department of National Defence, and the Ontario government. She holds a PhD in political science from the University of Toronto. Her latest project, currently in development, examines changes in the form and purpose of security force assistance and military-to-military cooperation amid heightened geopolitical competition.
