Yann Breault is an assistant professor at the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean and co-director of the Research Chair on Reserve Forces. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2011), which he earned with a dissertation on identity reconstruction in post-Soviet Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. He previously taught at UQAM and the University of Ottawa. In 2015, he co-founded the Eurasia Observatory with Jacques Lévesque and joined the Strategic Analysis Network in 2020. His research focuses primarily on Russian foreign policy, nationalism, identity politics, and Eurasian geopolitics. Among his major publications are *Russia and Its Former Empire* (Sciences Po, 2003) and, more recently, the edited volume *Iran at the Heart of the Eurasian Great Game: Tehran’s Foreign Policy and Its Relations with Strategic Partners* (Presses de l’Université du Québec, 2026). As co-director of the Research Chair on Reserve Forces, he leads research on the transformation and adaptation of reserve forces in response to evolving security environments, with a particular focus on mobilization, recruitment, force integration, civil-military relations, and national resilience.
