Karine Turcotte is a doctoral student in international studies at Laval University, co-supervised by Professors Frédéric Lasserre and Justin Massie. She holds a master’s degree in international studies, with a concentration in international development.
Her doctoral research focuses on the role of artificial intelligence as an instrument of sovereignty in the Canadian Arctic. More specifically, she studies the integration of AI into surveillance, intelligence, threat detection, decision-making, and interception systems in Canada, the United States, and the Scandinavian NATO member countries. Her approach draws on the fields of strategic studies, military innovation, and AI governance to analyze the transformations in security and defense in the Arctic region.
