Jana Walkowski (she/her) is a doctoral student in the department of Political Studies at Queen’s University working under the supervision of Dr. Susanne Soederberg. She holds a master’s degree in Political Science with a specialization in Development Studies from McGill University and a bachelor’s degree in Global Development Studies from Queen’s University. Her master’s thesis at McGill explored the trend in EU policy making to merge its migration governance with its development governance through an empirical study of the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa Instrument. This project was funded by a SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Master’s Scholarship and a 2021 Jean Monnet Award from the Jean Monnet Centre Montréal. Her broad research interests include: migration governance, borders, global development, critical security studies and global political economy approaches. She is especially concerned with how these themes are articulated in Europe and through its bordering practices, at various scales. She speaks English, French and German.
