Jean Lachapelle is an associate professor and director of graduate programs in the Department of Political Science at the Université de Montréal. His research focuses on the politics of authoritarian regimes, state violence, and democratization. He is currently writing a book on the link between repression and authoritarian resilience, based on field research conducted in Egypt and the Middle East. His publications on coups, revolutions, democratic erosion, and politics in the Middle East and North Africa have appeared in influential journals such as the Journal of Democracy, World Politics, Comparative Politics, and the Journal of Politics.
