Jean F. Crombois has been Lecturer in European Politics at the American University in Bulgaria since 2005. A historian and political scientist, Jean F. Crombois holds a PhD in contemporary European history from the Université libre de Bruxelles [Belgium] and a post-graduate diploma in political science from the University of Essex [UK]. His academic career has led him to hold the following positions: Wiener-Anspach Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Balliol College and in the Department of Modern History at Oxford University from 1999 to 2002; Lecturer in International Politics at Al Akhawayn University in Morocco from 2004 to 2005; Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Contemporary History at Oxford University in spring 2020 and Visiting Research Fellow at Georgetown University in the USA in spring 2024.
His publications cover a wide range of fields, including the history of international relations, mainly from the angle of financial diplomacy, European construction, the foreign policy of the European Union and Bulgaria’s foreign policy towards Russia, as well as in the context of the country’s participation in NATO’s eastern flank. In addition to his academic work, Jean F. Crombois has made contributions to journals published by Brussels-based think-tanks, as well as in the media in both Belgium and France.
