Maya Bouton is a master’s student in political science pursuing a dual degree between Sciences Po Grenoble and the Université du Québec à Montréal. She is interested in international relations, with a specialization in security and defense studies. Under the supervision of Justin Massie, her research focuses on defense industry strategy, as well as the dynamics of strategic partnerships in Canada and North America. More broadly, she is interested in issues of strategic autonomy, industrial dependence, and the legitimization of defense policies.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Sciences Po Grenoble, with a specialization in European politics, and devoted her undergraduate thesis to the structural and institutional constraints of European Union defense policy.
Alongside her research, she served as communications director at the Montreal Institute of International Studies (IEIM) in 2025–2026, and continues to contribute as an English-language editor to the media outlet Le Diplo, where she publishes monthly accessible analyses for the general public on North American security issues.
