Nicolas Klingelschmitt is a professor and researcher in political science specializing in multilateralism and African geopolitics. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and serves as associate director of the FrancoPaix Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping Missions at the Raoul Dandurand Chair in Strategic and Diplomatic Studies. He also teaches undergraduate and graduate-level political science courses at UQAM and the University of Sherbrooke.
His dissertation, supported by the Fonds de Recherche du Québec en Société et Culture (FRQSC) and completed while serving as a visiting researcher at the Institute for Peace & Security Studies at Addis Ababa University, analyzes the relationships between African states, regional organizations, and international partners within the African peace and security architecture. He has conducted research stays in Ethiopia, Benin, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He is an associate editor of the FrancoPaix Bulletin and co-hosts the podcast “Au FrancParler” with Professor Sarah-Myriam Martin-Brûlé. He is also a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Risks and Crises (LIRIC) as part of a program studying information disorders in Francophone Africa under authoritarian regimes.
While pursuing his Ph.D., he served as coordinator of activities at the FrancoPaix Center (2022–2024) and as a research fellow specializing in Africa at the Center for International Studies and Research at the University of Montreal (CÉRIUM) (2024–2025). He is a member of the Interuniversity Group for Studies and Research on African Societies (GIERSA) as well as the Center for Economic Law Studies (CÉDÉ).
