W. R. Nadège Compaoré

W. R. Nadège Compaoré is an Assistant Professor of International Relations (IR) in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto. Her work lies at the intersection of (Pan)African politics, IR theory, International Law, global extractivism, gender and race in IR. She is co-editor of New Approaches to the Governance of Natural Resources: Insights from Africa (Palgrave) and her work has been published in academic outlets such as International Theory, International Studies Review, International Studies Perspectives, Études Internationales, Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies, Oxford Handbook on Environmental Politics, Canadian Journal of African Studies, as well as several book chapters and policy reports. Her latest research is funded by the Social Sciences Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Beyond academia, her work involves over a decade in policy research and knowledge mobilization, through consulting and reporting for international institutions such as the United Nations. She is an advisory or editorial board member at various academic and policy publication platforms, including International Studies Review, the Canadian Journal of African Studies, Le Rubicon Publications, Bulletin Franco-Paix, and the Réseau d’Analyse Stratégique. A native of Burkina Faso, she completed fieldwork and visiting fellowships in Ghana, Gabon and South Africa.  She received her PhD in Political Studies from Queen’s University.
