In this 18th episode, Sarah-Myriam talks to Niagalé Bagayoko, Researcher and President of the African Security Sector Network (ASSN). A specialist in security system reform in Francophone Africa, international security policies in sub-Saharan Africa, and African conflict management mechanisms, she has directed the peacekeeping and peacebuilding program at the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, and has been a Researcher at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex (UK) and the Institut de recherche pour le développement (France), as well as a professor of International Relations at the Institut d’études politiques (IEP) in Paris.
Ms. Bagayoko talks about her academic and professional background. She presents the objectives and priorities of the African Sector Security Network that she chairs and of the Citizens Coalition for the Sahel of which her network is a part. Niagalé Bagayoko provides an overview of the main security challenges in the Sahel and discusses the importance of the concept of hybridity of security systems in Africa, in order to better understand the dynamics of conflict within the Sahel countries and the region. Niagalé Bagayoko presents the challenges for the G5 Sahel, the Barkhane and Takuba operations, and MINUSMA.
