Shuangsheng Zhao is a PhD student in Geographic Sciences at Laval University under the supervision of Professor Frédéric Lasserre. He holds a master’s degree in Geopolitics from the University of Paris VIII. His doctoral project focuses on Chinese policy towards Pacific island states. With his research, he aims to analyze different geopolitical issues in the Indo-Pacific, in particular, the influence of China. As part of the research, he will conduct a field survey in three island states (Solomons, Fiji, Papua New Guinea) in Oceania and meet local populations to better understand local issues. His fields of research revolve around the geopolitics of the Indo-Pacific, the rivalry of the great powers and the Pacific island states. He speaks Chinese, French, English and Korean.
